Unfog: Travel Tracker & Map ("Unfog," "we," "our," or "the app") is a travel-tracking app developed and operated by Merve Tuncer Ozer, an independent app developer based in the United Kingdom and working under the name MT Studio. Merve Tuncer Ozer is the data controller responsible for your information and the person to contact about it — see section 11.
This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who else can see it, and your rights. By using Unfog, you agree to this policy.
What changed in this version. Unfog now has social features — friends, a public leaderboard, blocking and reporting. The previous version of this policy predated them and said that photos are never shared with other users. That is no longer accurate: photos are visible to friends you accept. Section 2 sets out exactly who can see what.
Account information. When you sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple, that provider sends us your name and email address, and may also include a link to the profile picture you use on their service. This sign-in information is stored as part of your account record. Your provider's profile picture is never displayed anywhere in Unfog and is not shown to other users — your avatar is always one you have chosen yourself.
If you sign in as a guest, we create an anonymous account and receive none of this information.
You choose your own username and avatar in the app — either one of the built-in avatars or a photo you upload yourself — and you can change them at any time.
Travel data you provide. We store the travel information you add: the countries and landmarks you've visited, visit dates, and places you've lived.
Photos. If you add photos to your visits — taken with your camera or chosen from your photo library — they are uploaded and stored in a private area. They are not public, and they are not visible to strangers. They are visible to people you have accepted as friends. See section 2.
Social information. We store your friend connections and pending friend requests, any accounts you have blocked, and any reports you submit. See section 3.
Usage and diagnostic data. We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to diagnose problems. This includes app-interaction events, general device information (such as device model, operating system version, and app version), an approximate location (such as your country or region) that our analytics provider estimates from your IP address, a few account properties (such as whether you use a guest account and your selected home country), and crash logs. This information may be linked to an identifier for your account so we can attribute usage and issues accurately. We use it only to improve the app, and we do not sell it.
This is the most important section of this policy. Unfog has three levels of visibility.
| Who | What they can see |
|---|---|
| Any signed-in Unfog user | Your username, your avatar, your total points, and the number of countries and landmarks you have visited. These appear on the global leaderboard and in friend search. They do not include the names of any place you have been. |
| Friends you have accepted | Everything above, plus the countries and landmarks you have visited by name, the dates of those visits, and the photos attached to them. |
| Nobody but you | Your name, your email address, and the places you have lived ("I lived here"). These are never available to other users, including friends. |
The rule behind this: aggregate counts are public, but anything naming a specific place is available only to friends. Your name and email address are never available to anyone.
The leaderboard is public to signed-in users and has no opt-out. If you have recorded at least one visit, your username and totals appear on it. Your leaderboard entry is not visible to people who are not signed in to Unfog, and it is not published on the open web.
Guest accounts appear on the leaderboard too. A guest account is anonymous to us — we hold no name or email for it — but it is given a generated username such as Traveler_6641, and that username and its totals are visible to other signed-in users on the leaderboard in the same way as any other account. Guests cannot send or receive friend requests, so a guest's place names and photos are never visible to anyone else.
Friendship is mutual and reversible. Nobody can see your named places or photos until you accept their request. If you remove a friend, or block them, that access ends immediately.
You can search for other users by username and send a friend request. A request must be accepted before either of you can see the other's named places, dates or photos. Either person can end the friendship at any time, from their side alone.
You can block any account. Blocking immediately ends any friendship between you, prevents that person from finding you in search or seeing you on the leaderboard, and prevents them from sending you a friend request. You can still find a blocked account yourself, so that you are able to unblock it — this is deliberate, so that blocking is never an irreversible mistake. Unblocking does not restore a friendship that blocking ended; one of you would need to send a new request.
You can report another user, optionally naming one of their photos. A report records who filed it, who it is about, the reason you selected, anything you typed, the photo referred to (if any), the time, and both usernames as they were at that moment.
Reports are not readable inside the app by anyone — including the person who filed them. They are reviewed only by the developer. We do not tell the person you reported who reported them.
So that reports are seen promptly, a notification containing the report is sent to the developer by email. That notification passes through Make and Brevo, listed in section 5.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your travel data or photos for advertising.
Unfog relies on the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:
We encourage you to review their privacy policies to understand how they handle data.
Your account and travel data are stored on secure servers provided by Supabase. Photos are kept in a private storage area and are reached only through short-lived, signed links; they are not available at a public address. Access is enforced by database security rules, which decide on every request whether you are the owner of the data or an accepted friend of the owner. Usage and diagnostic data is stored by our analytics and crash-reporting providers (Google Firebase). Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and your data may be stored or processed on servers located outside your country.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, travel data, uploaded photos, friend connections and leaderboard entry from our systems, and removes reports that refer to your account.
Guest accounts. A guest account belongs to the device it was created on. Signing out does not delete it — continue as a guest again on the same device and your travel history is still there.
But a guest account has no email or password attached, so there is nothing to sign in with from anywhere else. It cannot be moved to another device, and it may be lost if you remove the app or do not open it for a long time. If you want your travels to be permanent and recoverable, you can connect a Google, Facebook or Apple account at any time from profile settings — this keeps everything you have already recorded.
Depending on your region (including under the UK and EU GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to request a copy of it, and to object to or restrict how it is used. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app — editing or deleting your entries, changing your username, or deleting your account. For anything else, contact us at the email below.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority about how your information has been handled.
Unfog is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
